2022 Virtual Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair

Visitors from Major Markets Grow, Attracting Global Buyers from 35 Countries

The 2022 Virtual Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair completed its first 4-day exhibition with success. This Virtual Fair showcased the latest fur and fashion collections, premium raw materials, novel accessories and other products from new and loyal exhibitors from Hong Kong, the Mainland, Greece, England, Canada and the United States. The Fair attracted similar number of buyers from 35 countries during the first four days comparing to last year’s Virtual Fur Fair.

Although the industry has faced many obstacles and challenges, and it has got worse as the global pandemic persist, the Hong Kong Fur Federation (HKFF)’s mission remains unchanged; thus we are determined to continue serving the industry by setting out our new vision on the virtual platform.

This year the Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair virtual platform has been revitalized providing easy access and an advanced product search engine, enabling instant and barrier-free communication between exhibitors and buyers intended to foster business opportunities.

Virtual exhibition has become the new normal and attracts growing attention. Major markets showed prominent increase in buyer attendance including Japan, South Korea, the Mainland and the United States, while Europe remained stable. This reflects that the market has adapted to the trend of online fur exhibition under the pandemic, and buyers showed great initiative in exploring new products at the exhibition.

The number of buyers participating in the Virtual Hong Kong Fur Fair has continued to grow since the opening day, which showed the buyers’ keen engagement and the market looks forward with anticipation eagerly. The Hong Kong’s major exporting markets recorded percentage increase of visitors attending the 2022 Virtual Hong Kong Fur Fair comparing to last year are as follows:

Country Percentage Increase of No. of Visitors
Japan +93%
Korea +7%
China +34%
United States +20%

Unfortunately, Russia and Eastern Europe were affected by the geopolitical situation, and the markets were greatly impacted with buyers from Russia sudden dropped drastically. It is believed that after the political situation stabilizes, the markets and buyers are expected to regain confidence and momentum gradually.

One of the exhibitors, Mr. William Sun from Hong Kong Fur Factory Ltd. said that, we welcome the revitalized platform of Virtual Fur Fair 2022. We can see the platform had become more user friendly and easy to use, thus easier for users to find the information they need. He added that, concerning business, we can sense the cautious mood from the buyers. Nonetheless, retail customers had expected they had a better year than expected, and have optimism that once the market situation stabilizes, they will firm up on the orders soon.

Ms. Rose Ko from Precious Fur Trading Co. is also an exhibitor of the Fair, she commented that the HKFF is hosting its own platform of Virtual Fur Fair with a new format this year, the responses from visitors were encouraging. The Virtual Fair will continue to run every year even when the Physical Fair resumes to normal. In view of present travel restriction, Virtual Fair is a feasible platform to link up the business with foreign buyers; as usual to enrich the Fair, exhibitors made great efforts in presenting their latest collections at their booths. This Fair most participants receive sample order as starting, and for sure bulk order will follow upon sample receipt; as buyers said life must go on and our fur business is also going on.

The Virtual Hong Kong Fur Gala fashion show being the highlight of the annual event, it is definitely the best stage to display the latest creative collections from Hong Kong furriers to global buyers.

A number of exhibitors and buyers reflected, “I like the Virtual Fur Gala very much, because the concept of fashion presentation is very innovative and the various special effects are fantastic which bring new experience for fur fashion”.

In addition, there are house shows by some participants at their booths. Exhibitors have smartly included more light weight designs, soft colour tones to bring a chill and relaxed mood to their collections.

Mr. Eric Lau, Chairman of the Hong Kong Fur Federation was pleased that the Virtual Hong Kong Fur Fair has been receiving positive feedback from buyers about the fashion shows, the products, and efficiency of the platform.

He expressed that “Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, fur business has faced very big challenges. Russia, Ukraine and other previous Soviet Union countries are big consumers of fur products. Approximately 20% of the worldwide fur supply annually goes to these countries. This untimely event has reduced the number of visitors to our fair. We hope as the situation improves, customers from these areas will visit our online fair once again”.

This Virtual Fur Fair will continue to be open and last through 31 August 2022. So don’t miss out on this unique fur and fashion extravaganza, join us at this premier virtual showcase of the fur world at www.hkfurfair.com.

The Hong Kong Fur Federation looks forward to further improving this platform and it is the HKFF’s long term strategy to stage the Virtual Fur Fair side-by-side with the Physical Fur Fair in the future for the benefit of the global fur industry.
