“Golden Old Times” Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2017
Showcasing the Timeless Beauty and Endless Possibilities of Fur Fashion
(5 January 2017 – Hong Kong) The Hong Kong fur industry has been internationally acclaimed for its impeccable craftsmanship and unparalleled creativity. To identify and nurture local design talents, the Young Executive Committee of Hong Kong Fur Federation presents the annual “Hong Kong Fur Design Competition” that aims to encourage local young designers to flex their creative muscles and provide an exchange platform for the industry players and fur enthusiasts to further explore new and exciting possibilities of fur design.
The “Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2017” was held at Sky100 Hong Kong Observation Deck today. The contest received enthusiastic responses this year with a total of 486 submissions, of which 15 entries from the “Full Fur Category” and 13 from the “Fur Combination Category” were shortlisted to vie for seven honours, including the “Commercial Award” and the “Best Sketch Award” to be voted by the followers of the competition’s Facebook page. Winners of both categories will be enrolled in a one-week fur design course in Copenhagen, Denmark to broaden their horizons and sharpen their skills.
This year’s judging panel comprises Mr. Michele Scuotto, Trade Commissioner of Italian Trade Commission in the HKSAR, Mr. Jari Sinkari, Consul-General of the Consulate General of Finland in the HKSAR, Mr. Stephen Liang, Assistant Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms. Chris Cui, President of Kopenhagen Fur China, Mr. Harrison Wong, renowned fashion designer and Ms. Janet Ma, Hong Kong top model. Winners of both categories will be recognized for the originality and creativity, commercial value and marketability, workmanship, use of fur materials, and overall design concept of their collections.
Echoing the theme “Golden Old Times”, the venue was furnished in opulent colours that recalled the retro glam and golden era of old Shanghai. The vintage backdrop subtly highlighted the original and stylish fur collections, offering the audiences a glimpse into the charming city. The curtain was raised by “Shanghai Express” that showcased the beauty of East-meets-West fur looks against the exotic oriental flair taken from the Hollywood black-and-white films in the 1930s. It was followed by “Le Grand Opera” that drew inspiration from the traditional Beijing opera and theatre culture. The vibrant palette drew all eyes to the endless possibilities of fur. The sensational show culminated in “The Paramont” where models became graceful socialites in glamourous fur pieces and revealed their elegance, confidence and sophistication in the iconic nightclub The Paramount.
One of the most anticipated highlights of the annual event was “Designers Love Fur” collection jointly presented with the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association further ignited the mood. This year, five local designers including Mr. Henry Lau, Ms. Hidy Ng, Mr. Otto Tang, Ms. Harrison Wong and Ms. Rock Wong, were invited to join hands with the HKFF members to present their ingenious masterpieces and showcase the endless possibilities of fur design.
The star-studded event also saw the presence of local celebrities and famed designers to witness the latest fur fashion trends. Ms. Angelika Nikola, Ms. Denice Lam and Ms. Louise Wong were invited to walk in the fashion show, while other attending guests included: Ms. Grace Chan, Ms. Jacquelin Ch'ng, Ms. Rosina Lin, Ms. Katy Kung, Ms. Samantha Ko, Ms. Anina Ho, Ms. Sherry Chen, Ms. Lily Li, Ms. Belinda Yan, Ms. Fanny Lee & fiancé Alvin, Mr. Andy Wong, Mr. Hugo Wong, Mr. & Mrs. Ryan Sun, Mr. Charles Yang, Ms. Maria Wu and more.
Special thanks to the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association for its support for the “Designers Love Fur” project.
