Press Release

2025 Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair

Ushers in a New Era of Fashion and Sustainable Harmony

(22nd February, 2025 - Hong Kong) The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair, an annual highlight on the fashion calendar, held with success at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with near 60 local and overseas exhibitors showcasing trendsetting fur fashion, premium raw materials and a wide array of new accessories from 19 to 22 February. The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair has never failed to amaze international buyers since 1982 with timeless chic and trendy innovation while Hong Kong furriers are today shipping their stylish fur accessories and apparel to over 30 countries around the world.

Affected by the Russo-Ukrainian war, statistics shown that the buyer attendance of certain markets has declined; however, with development of the Belt and Road Initiative and the rapid economic growth of several emerging markets, a new consumer base has gradually formed, including Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan. Traditional markets such as Kazakhstan, Canada and Greece have also seen an increase in visitor numbers. In addition, orders from the United States and South Korea have recorded impressive growth of 38% and 21% respectively. Industry analysts believe that the demands and preferences of middle-class and affluent consumers are increasingly leaning towards personalization and refinement. This indicates that Hong Kong possesses unique advantages, particularly in its exquisite production and processing craftsmanship, which are appreciated by consumers and highly regarded by the international fur industry. Hong Kong manufacturers, with their fashionable fur style, have successfully attracted buyers from around the world, and the industry is confident about future development.

The fur industry has been actively seeking transformation and self-improvement, and has responded to market demand with different strategies. As the global fashion industry pays increasing attention to environmental issues, the industry is actively transforming and committed to achieving the goal of sustainable development. In recent years, the fur industry has greatly improved the environmental protection standards of fur through innovative technologies and regulations, as well as recycling and reusing fur scraps to reduce waste. Additionally, the upstream tanning industry has also been making proactive changes, innovating in the field of raw materials and adopting more environmental friendly tanning techniques to reduce the use of chemicals. Hong Kong’s fur industry has always kept pace with the times, not only meeting consumers’ demands for luxury and quality, but also responding to their expectations for environmental protection.

Riding on the success of the competition, the Federation added the concept of Re-cycling and Up-cycling to the competition.

The Competition Winner, Wu Tung Lam's design was themed “Shepherd”, symbolized guidance to lead society out of their struggles through clothing design. The Hong Kong Fur Federation was established in 1979 to coordinate Hong Kong fur trade activities and to promote its development. The vast majority of raw materials used by Hong Kong fur manufacturers are sourced from modern fur farms in Scandinavia, the USA and Canada. All wild furs come from overpopulated species so as to maintain the ecological balance. Industry players also work closely with their local governments to ensure that no endangered species are being used.
