Hong Kong Fur Gala 2023

Showcasing the Amazement of Sustainable Furs

(22^nd February, 2023 - Hong Kong) The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair, an annual highlight on the fashion calendar, kicked off today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with over 60 exhibitors from overseas and regions showcasing trendsetting fur fashion, premium raw materials and a wide array of new accessories from 22 to 25 February. The Hong Kong International Fur & Fashion Fair has never failed to amaze international buyers since 1982 with timeless chic and trendy innovation while Hong Kong furriers are today shipping their stylish fur accessories and apparel to over 30 countries around the world.

The star-studded evening was unveiled with the glamourous Fur Gala 2023. The stars shine brighter as a galaxy of social elites joined this spectacular event, including Dr. Bernard Chan, Pak Li, JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of HKSAR Government and the Honorable Sunny Tan, Legislative Council Member, Functional Constituency of Textiles and Garment as the guests of honor, highlighting the government’s recognition for the remarkable achievements of the Hong Kong fur industry on the international stage. The Gala night also saw the honorable presence of representatives from Executive Council and other trade associations, including:

• Hon. Mrs. Regina IP LAU Suk-yee, GBM, GBS, JP, Convenor of Executive Council;
• Mr. Xu Xiaolin, The Deputy Director-General of the Coordination Department of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR;
• Dr. the Hon. KO Wing-man, GBS, JP, Member of Executive Council;
• Hon. Peter Shiu JP, Legislative Council Member, Functional Constituency of Wholesale and Retail;
• Dr. the Hon. Yu Sun Say, Jose, GBM, GBS, JP, the Permanent Honorary President of The Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong.

Mr. Eric Lau, Chairman of Hong Kong Fur Federation, noted, “To achieve one of the "four proposals" put forward by President Xi - Hong Kong should continue to create strong impetus for growth and unlock enormous creativity and development potential, the Fur Gala not only showcasing the fashion-forward glamour of furs, but also one of the series of activities to enhance Hong Kong as the world fashion capital. Together with textiles and garment industry, the fur industry will take active action to transit Hong Kong from stability to prosperity.”

With the stabilization of the epidemic and the gradual return of society to normal, "Fur Gala 2023" kicked off with the theme of "Ignite", which warmly ignited the long-awaited annual event. Professional models worn more than 100 latest designs from 10 leading fur manufacturers to express romance, passion, magnificence, joy and other personalities, showcasing ever-changing fur fashion, Hong Kong fur manufacturers with extraordinary creative and forward-looking designs, leading the fur fashion to the next level.

The Saga Furs 2023 Trend Show and final of the 2023 Sustainable Fur Design Competition (FDC) also took place the same night. The Federation has been hosting the competition since 1987.  The event aims at promoting the originality of fur fashion by kindling the interest of local design students in an attempt to recruit young talented designers for the industry.

Despite the success of the competition, the Federation added the concept of Re-cycling and Up-cycling to the competition. Each garment was redesigned and remade from a vintage garment donated by manufacturers.  The design institutes’ students up-cycled the vintage garments to a fashion piece through latest innovative technology and trendy style. The fur industry wishes to tell the world that fur is green, sustainable and long lasting.

Today, “Fur by Hong Kong” has become a distinguished label around the globe, synonymous with state-of-the-art technologies, unrivalled craftsmanship and original design. Revealing the latest trends of fur fashion, Fur Gala 2023 offered the perfect platform for buyers and professionals worldwide to explore new inspiration and share latest market trend with industry players.
